"Use your Head!!"
(written by Kyle Paulsen)
When my dad and I were going to the 2004 North
American International Auto Show in Detroit we were driving my mom's 2004
Butane Blue Pearl Chrysler Pacifica (w/ 2WD) on the freeway,
this is where the story gets..err...rolling. It was
snowing like crazy and we were cruising along on US
10 (The Lodge Freeway) at about 55 or below (Speed limit's 65), and the road
was covered with snow in some parts, and ice in others. Well, we were driving
along, and suddenly my dad's like "Did you see that?" I was looking at my Hot
Rod engine book from 1970. So I said "No," obviously. He then says "Man, that
Jeep back there just spun on the ice!". Now all of a sudden, that SAME Jeep
comes FLYING by us with front AND back end damage. It seems it did a few 360s
into the wall! He didn't seem to be hurt, but we're thinking "What an idiot."
Coming back from the auto show (and before not being able to find the freeway
in DETROIT), there was a RWD Ford F-150 in front of us and as he accelerated
his back end wanted to drive in front now, this thing was literally driving
sideways, lol.
Lesson to be learned:
There's two.
First: Don't drive fast in bad weather, especially
cold, snowy/icy weather. I know this may seem stupid. But the second lesson
is: USE YOUR COMMON SENSE!
Greg's comments. Kyle, I grew
up in Illinois with the snow & rain and you really have to make a conscious
decision to slow down and think about what you are doing! Even with all the
stupid stuff I did I always paid attention to my speed and driving conditions.
It's really not worth wrecking your baby to try to get there a few minutes
early!! Nice job Kyle!
